Dodson & Company Construction, Inc. specializes in top-quality design buildings and general contractor services for any commercial or industrial project in the state of North and South Carolina and Virginia where we currently hold general contracting licenses. Our project showcase to date includes but is not limited to: storage and warehouse complexes, mini-warehouse and self-storage, pre-engineered metal buildings and erection, industrial and manufacturing facilities, all types of office buildings, commercial restaurants, shopping centers, retail buildings, fast food, and convenient stores, medical and dental buildings, churches, and renovation work from light to complete renovation of all types of construction.

We will help guide you through the process and handle many of the tasks required to start your new project. Our pre-construction services include project feasibility, design concept, preparation of plans and specifications, zoning and building code conformance, verification of utilities, site planning, and many other services to take your project from an idea to a completed project that will meet or exceed your needs.
If you already have plans and specifications for your project or have had them prepared by an architectural firm, our estimating department will prepare an estimate for your project in a professional and timely manner. We may also recommend valuable engineering ideas that could possibly allow you to reach your project goals with savings to the total project cost. If your project is a design-build project with which you have allowed us to assist in the planning and design, we will also provide preliminary pricing as we proceed through the design process to make sure project goals pertaining to cost are met, as well as producing the final contract cost prior to project start.
From the first call to our company, your project is handled by one of our team of professionals. Initially, you will be in contact with a member of our sales and estimating staff who will take your project through the estimating, or design and estimating stage. After your project is through the contract stage, the project management team will then begin the construction of your project. During this phase, you will receive updates on your project and remain in contact with one of our project managers as well as having contact with the job site superintendent, on daily basis if needed, who will be assigned to your specific project. At any given time during the course of your project, there are always several members of our team familiar with your project to answer any of your questions or handle any concerns.
Of course, the time your project will require to complete will vary, according to type and size. However, from your first contact until the completion, your project will receive timely attention through each phase. As well as meeting all the requirements you have for your new project, completing it on or ahead of schedule is as important as any other project requirement. Our goal is to expedite your project to allow you to benefit from it as soon as possible, as well as increase efficiency for the entire construction team. Our construction schedules are set up to meet or exceed this goal.

Preston Massey

President

With more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry, Preston brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to every project. He began his career at Dodson as a laborer, gaining hands-on expertise across all facets of construction, and has since advanced through roles in carpentry, project supervision, estimating, and project management. Today, as President and Owner of Dodson and Company, Preston leads with a commitment to quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.  

His portfolio spans a wide range of sectors, including quick-serve restaurants, convenience stores, churches, healthcare facilities, multi-family housing, office buildings, aircraft hangars, industrial projects, hotels and more. Actively engaged in every stage of development—from initial design and bidding through construction and final completion—Preston ensures that each project is delivered with precision and excellence.  

Beyond his professional achievements, Preston values time with his family and enjoys outdoor pursuits such as fishing, hunting, and training his duck dogs. His dedication to both his work and personal life reflects the balance of integrity, passion, and leadership that defines his career.  

Jason Harting

Chief Financial Officer

Jason Harting serves as our Chief Financial Officer, bringing more than 20 years of accounting expertise to the team. A graduate of Appalachian State University, Jason began his career in public accounting before transitioning to construction accounting, where he has spent the majority of his professional life. His deep experience spans multifamily housing, disaster mitigation, and commercial construction, equipping him with a comprehensive understanding of financial operations across diverse sectors.

As CFO, Jason leads the accounting department with a focus on continuous improvement. He works to optimize processes, strengthen financial controls, and provide reliable insights that support operational decision-making and sustainable growth across the organization.

Outside of work, Jason enjoys spending time with his family, flying helicopters, and retreating to the mountains.

Jeff Petway

Project Manager

Jeff Petway brings extensive construction experience spanning design-build, new construction, and commercial tenant improvements. With over 39 years in the industry, Jeff specializes in guiding projects from concept through planning and construction, ensuring that every detail aligns with client goals and project constraints.

In his role, Jeff collaborates closely with clients, design professionals, and project teams to coordinate efforts, manage schedules, and implement project plans. His hands-on approach emphasizes clear communication, rigorous coordination, and disciplined execution to deliver successful, on-time, on-budget outcomes.

Outside of work, Jeff enjoys hiking and fishing. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the North Carolina Army National Guard, and serves as the Assistant Chief of Snow Camp Fire & Rescue. He also brings a wealth of leadership experience from time spent as a mechanic and pit crew member for NASCAR teams over a decade. Jeff is a proud family man, with three daughters and six grandchildren.

Russell Mansfield

Design Coordinator

As our design coordinator, Russell provides conceptual building designs including site and floorplan layout, and exterior renderings.  With over 22 years experience at Dodson and Company, he specializes in working with architects and engineers in all fields to provide complete building plans and obtain building permits for construction.  Russell is passionate about design detail and helping our client’s vision come to life through his creative ideas and knowledge of building code.  He is known for his collaborative approach with our construction partners, as well as understanding our clients needs.  Outside of work, Russell enjoys riding his Harley and playing guitar.
